Welcome- I’m The Grey Blending Specialist You’ve Been Waiting For!
First off, a virtual high-five to you for embracing your authentic, stunning self.
Here at Hair by Kelly St Claire, we're not just about hiding those silver strands – we're all about making them shine even brighter. Whether you're looking to blend, transition, or simply jazz up your greys, we've got your back.
What's Grey Blending?
Think of grey blending as the cool, artsy aunt in the color world. It's a technique that takes those silvery or white streaks and turns them into a masterpiece.
Instead of the classic cover-up, grey blending mixes your natural shades to create a seamless, dimensional look.
It's perfect for you if:
You are starting to go grey and don’t feel it’s a “pretty” grey.
Seeking a lower maintenance color routine.
You’re sick of harsh grow-out lines (within a week or two).
You still want to have a lot of fun with color while still embracing your grey
Grey blending is all about softening the "grow out" and letting your hair tell its own beautiful, multi-tonal story. You'll enjoy a more natural progression of color with less of those pesky grow-out lines.
Grey Transition? What's That?
Now, the Grey Transition is the supportive best friend that helps you through your journey. For those ready to embrace their grey wholly and boldly, transitioning is the path for you.
It's a process that:
Aids in growing out the grey completely.
Balances out uneven colors or patches.
Makes the overall grow-out phase less obvious and more graceful.
Whether you're all-in with your greys or just began your silver journey, transitioning ensures that the process is smooth, elegant, and oh-so-you!
So, What's the Difference?
Grey Blending= Custom color magic that plays with your greys and existing hair color to create a seamless, blended masterpiece, OR a fun and unique look customized to you.
Grey Transition= (The Big Shift) Your companion in the journey of fully growing out your grey, making sure it’s a smooth and stylish process.
At Hair by Kelly St Claire, my mission is to make your grey hair journey as fun, fabulous, and uniquely YOU as possible. Because let's face it, grey is not just a color; it's an attitude. And you wear it so well!

FAQ

Gray blending works best for women who want to work with their natural gray rather than cover it up on a constant cycle. If you are tired of root touch-ups every few weeks, want a softer and more low-maintenance look, or are ready to start embracing your silver but are not sure how, gray blending is likely a great fit. The best way to know for sure is through a consultation where we can look at your hair, your goals, and your lifestyle together.
-
This is one of the most common concerns and it is important to be upfront about how hair actually works. When hair is lightened, there is always a natural golden or warm undertone underneath. Toners neutralize that warmth, but as the toner fades, some of that gold can come back. That is not a mistake or a problem, it is just how hair behaves. Maintaining your tone is part of the process, especially in the beginning.
It is also important to know that hair with color in it will never look exactly like natural gray. The goal is to get it as close as possible and as beautiful as possible, but your results will depend on your specific hair, how it responds to lightening, and how much color history it has. I will always be honest with you about what I think your hair will do before we start.
-
Gray blending softens the contrast between your natural gray and your existing color, creating a seamless dimensional look with less maintenance. You keep some color in your hair while letting the gray become part of the picture. A gray transformation, what I call The Big Shift, is a full commitment to growing out your color entirely and letting your natural silver come through completely. One is gradual and flexible. The other is a full process with multiple stages.
-
In the beginning of your gray blending journey, toners may not last as long as you would like. Depending on your hair, the early stages can require more frequent maintenance while your hair adjusts. I will always recommend toning products you can use at home to help extend your results between appointments, and I will be straightforward with you about what to expect for your specific hair. The goal over time is for your toner to last four to eight weeks, but getting there is a process and I will walk you through every step of it.
-
Much less than traditional color. Most gray blending clients come in every eight to fourteen weeks depending on their hair and how much gray they have. The whole point is to reduce the constant upkeep that comes with full coverage color. That said every person is different and we will build a maintenance plan specific to you during your consultation.
-
That harsh line between your natural gray roots and your colored ends is one of the most common things I work with. The goal is to either blend that line so it transitions more softly, or to lighten the colored portion so the contrast is less dramatic. What we can do and how quickly depends entirely on your hair, how it lifts, and what color history it has. Some hair responds quickly and some needs a more gradual approach. I will give you an honest assessment at your consultation so you know exactly what to expect.
-
This is an important question. Box dye can be unpredictable because the formulas vary widely and often deposit color that is difficult to remove evenly. It does not mean gray blending is impossible but it does mean your consultation is essential. I need to assess your hair before making any promises about what we can achieve and how quickly. In some cases we need to take a gradual approach to protect the integrity of your hair.
-
Anytime we lighten hair there will be some degree of change to the hair's structure. That is just the reality of how lightening works and I will always be honest about that. The good news is that with the right products, bond-building treatments, and a solid home care routine, that damage can be managed and minimized significantly. Your hair does not have to suffer to look beautiful. I build protective treatments into every service and I will put together a home care plan specifically for your hair so you can maintain your results between appointments.
-
Consistent bond-building treatments at the salon, the right products at home, and not over-washing are the three biggest factors. I will put together a specific home care routine for you so you know exactly what to use and what to avoid. You will not leave my chair without a clear plan.
